Automobiles in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers mentioned they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police say initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.

An important representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
